Talent Show

24-28/04/2011

Not a lot to say about the last couple of days. Monday we went to Santa Elena city center to do a treasure hunt and the kids were able to use the internet. On Tuesday we went to the Santa Elena Reserve and the kids were able to see a Quetzal which is very rare. I had to stay in the bus with one of the kid who was sick. On Wednesday we went back to the Trapiche and the kids loved it.
Things become interesting on Thursday. It was a long, sporty and funny day. First in the morning we went to San Luis waterfall. Even if I wasn’t able to go into the water because I preferred to look after the kids, I enjoyed the hike. To come back we split into 2 groups and to make sure that the others were able to follow the good direction, I made up a way to make them figure out :

Back at school the kids went to class and I ran back to my flat to have a shower (yes sometimes I do take a shower^^) and went back to work at the office. At 5 pm I had dance class with Royner, I’m getting a bit better at Salsa but still need to learn a lot and I’m still trying to figure out how to move with more fluidity. I hope it will come with the practice! I didn’t like the first part of the class because mainly because I didn’t like my partner. He knew how to dance Salsa so was going a bit in every direction, moving around. I was saved by Royner who make us change partners and Nanou had to dance with him while I went dancing with Royner. Much easier and much more fun!

We then had a “talent show” evening. We had a lot of fun as all the kids were participating. I’m not going to comment the photos because I think that they are speaking for themselves!

Amazing to see them dancing together: a real pleasure!

La Loca Cocina by La Loca Clara :P

Trying to do "American Roller" with an alter and a wooden board...

With eggs...

With knives to finish!

The FUNNIEST part: El Baile de la mosca!!!

After a nice evening in the school, it was time to go out...Of course: it's thursday night...so you have to go to Mata E Cana for the Salsa Evening! Nanou lent me one of her dress. I wand the same!! It was such a beautiful dress!

Back to Monteverde!

23/04/2011

My group was leaving this morning for Arenal while I was heading for Monteverde in the Chiquitin Express with Chiquitin, my boss Dona Jonle and her 2 youngest kids. I played a lot with Julian, he is sooo cute! He is a fan of Yu Gi Oh and I was amazed to be able to remember so much about this series even if I haven’t watched it for 10 years !!  We had a lot of fun! Dona Jonle was just sooo kind! We brought me food for the week end :D A mixt salad and a chicken meal…yammy!!!!

Back in my favorite place in the word, a surprise was waiting for me: I changed room! The new one is a palace in comparison to what I had before. First you enter in a dining room with tables and chairs and at the end of the room you have an American kitchen. A door on the left allows you to enter to a small corridor leading to the bedroom or the bathroom. The bedroom is huge… well the bed is huge! Kind size! I even have a dressing…as if with my small bag I needed a dressing… but it’s nice having one!

Then time to rest, to go and by some food because it doesn’t appear by itself… I tried the “wait and see” policy and well….It didn’t work :D

Rappelling

22/04/2011

The BEST experience so far. It was just huge. I was a bit scared… not for me but for the kids who wanted to get near the waterfall to see the other doing down. My job consisted more or less to “Come back!”, “Don’t touch your equipment”, “Wait for me!”, “don’t worry”…of course, I couldn’t stop myself saying “don’t worry, you are just going to die” or answering the question “is it safe?” by “No, that’s why I’m waiting last to be sure it’s safe”…It wasn’t nice for them but it was just so funny that I couldn’t stop myself.

I kept cool with the girl always asking “why?”: “Why can’t I come nearer the border?”, “why can’t I touch the equipment?”, “why do we need to go down in the order 3 and then 2?”, “why are you going last?”, “I know what I’m doing, I can do it!”. But I kept cool answering her quite the same each time “because it’s the rule and you have to follow them.” I had so much fun ‘but didn’t show her!) when she asked me “And what if I don’t want?” ….” Well no problem, you go back and stay with your teacher and you’re not doing the rappelling! I love having power hahaha!

I was last to go down. Thanks to climbing, I knew how was working the material so I went down with Carlos (the guide) to have much more fun than the kids.
First, instead of going down “walking” on the rock, we went half of the 70 meters, jumping down. FUNNY! But it wasn’t finished yet! We secured ourselves and Carlos pushed me under the waterfall to have a massage! The best massage I have had in my life. Imagine, being suspended to a cable 35 meters above the ground and having a waterfall falling over your shoulder! Nice, very nice!”. He then showed me how to fly from one side of the wall to the other one. First attempt: my back crashed on the rocks: I had forgotten to twist on the left. The next attempt was much better and a lot funnier.  It was still far from what Carlos was doing but at least I didn’t crash!! I tried 2-3 times and we went down. 5 meters before the ground, he stopped me: “now, you are going to jump and don’t secure yourself with your right hand ok? I will secure you.” He then showed me: he pushed himself as strong as he could and didn’t stop the rope…so it was like jumping into the little lake waiting for us. I hesitated 3 seconds but was too tempted not to do it: I didn’t want to have any regret! It was amazing!!! Falling into the water!

THANKS CARLOS!!!!!!!!

Something made me even happier! Carlos is going to open a Bungee jumping in 15 days!!! And of course he will need people to try it…Here I am!! I’m going to stay a bit in Monteverde but as soon as I’m back in Heredia, I’ll definitely go there to try it! Soooo excited!!
