I’m crazy and I know it so why am I still surprised sometimes?

 10-12/06/2011

Last week end my group went to Limon, on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. I was supposed to go there with them and was excited too. Indeed I’ve never been there and it was an opportunity to discover it. But last minute change made it impossible for me to go. When my boss called me on Thursday afternoon to tell me I wasn’t going, the first question I asked wasn’t why (I wouldn’t get an answer anyway^^) but “is there any CPI transportation for Monteverde this week end?”. Oh yes my friends, as soon as I knew I had 3 days off, everything was clear in my head: I was going to spend them in Monteverde, my favorite place in the world.
I sent a message to Royner “do you want an ice cream tomorrow night?”, I would have loved seeing his face because his answer was “tomorrow? How is that possible?”. After checking with him, I made my bag and was excited to go back to Monteverde after such a long time… 4 days…I’m definitely completely crazy!

I arrived at Monteverde at 11am and went directly to Royner’s to leave my bags. He was surprised to see me at that time because I told him I was going to take the afternoon bus. I thought I would do so but at the last moment I thought it would be a loss of time to sleep at my house during the morning and spend all the afternoon in the bus. It was better to take the morning bus, sleep in it and then have the whole afternoon and evening in Monteverde.
Banjo was very pleased but scared by the gift I brought him.

We spoke a bit and then he went to go the school while I went to Sabores, the ice-cream shop, to use the wireless and work a bit. At 6 I met a ex-student from Rollins’ group who is currently doing a placement at CPI. We talked for a while. I then bought the ice-cream for Royner and I and went back to the school to eat it with him. We spent some time to speak, listen to music and see pictures. Back at his place, we got ready to go and dance a bit.

It was a good night…but let’s face it: it’s always good in Monteverde. Saturday morning we went to do some volunteering for the elderly at the local market. Well to be honest I met Royner over there and participated buying a snack and a drink. I arrived around 10am but he was there since 6am, cooking and serving food! I tip my hat to him!
There is no option: Banjo IS, without a doubt, Royner’s dog: don’t you see a similarity??

After the feria, we went to have lunch at a local restaurant with Digna and Arelys. Is was nice too. The afternoon went very quickly. We spent part of it at the school using the computer, listening to music, looking at photos, joking…in a word: having a blast!
At night we watched a movie: “Hell’s gate” how to describe this movie…first to describe it, you would have to understand it which was not our case! One of the worst movies ever!

Sunday morning we slept in, watched another movie and that was already the end of the week end. I went to the bus station to buy my ticket and a bad news was waiting for me: no seat available!!

My good mood dropped in a second. There is only 2 buses to go from Monteverde to Heredia: one ay 6:30am and one at 2:30 pm…and I really needed to be back at Heredia Monday 7am at the latest! The driver was friendly and offered me to drop me at Sardinal which is down the mountain, near the main road where I could, hopefully, find another bus going to San José. :S :S At least I know the lesson now: always buy the ticket before!
I was lucky, after only 45 minutes waiting, and 4 buses passing by without stopping, one coming from Tamarindo had some seats available and stopped. The bus was high class: we had AC that was then a nice journey to Heredia. This bus was even quicker than the public bus so I managed to get to Heredia before my group and was able to welcome then back from there week-end to Limon: all went perfect at the end!

Crazy and proud of it
