Today was definitely NOT my day!
The group was supposed to arrive at San José Airport at 11:24am, usually it takes them an hour to pass through customs, security and collect their luggage. Leaving at 11:15am with Ronny and getting there at 11:45, we were perfectly on time to pick the group…or we thought we were. When we got to the airport a worker from the airport that I had only met once before, waved at me. I went to see what he wanted…he took charge of my group which was already there… Bad start!
The afternoon was fine, getting the test, the orientation and then we went to the hotel La Condesa to rest and have dinner. ½ hour before the dinner, I went to see if the table was set, if everything was ready for my kids. We had a menu set with soup, 2 options (lasagna or spaghetti) and tres leches for desert. I checked with the waiter and he confirmed me the menu. I went to ask the students what they wanted and when I came back, the manager was there saying he couldn’t offer this menu anymore because the cook hadn’t the ingredients to prepare it… The only thing they could offer us was a buffet… How to explain that to my teacher? I just asked them what they wanted to have for dinner! :S :S :S I was sooo shameful and was so sweating to go and tell her. Another “problem” on the same day, especially the first day!
After dinner my teacher asked me if it was possible to go to a catholic mass the following morning. It was impossible to say “no” after such a catastrophic day. It was a challenge to organize as we already had to change driver the next day and Johnny the guide was supposed to fill my place and take care of the group. After checking the mass time, checking that Johnny could come later, that Roy could pick us up after the mass and that Ronny could drive us to the church at 9am, we managed to get that organized! At least one thing went well that day!
They went to their room and I did the same. I shared mine with Ronny. Javier, a guide, came and we chatted part in Spanish and part in French as he had been living there for a few months. It was nice and helped cooled down and evacuated the stress.
