My SDCC group went for a week to Monteverde. I told them that it would take us 2 hours because the road is very bad and that it will be raining by the time we get there… what a lyer I am…the road had been fixed and it took us only 45 minutes to arrived to a sunny and very hot Monteverde… I will just assume that Monteverde was happy to see me and gave me the best welcoming day. Hahaha
We stayed there a week and did the usual activities: Canopy, Trapiche Tour and Santa Elena Reserve. We added new activities as the hanging bridges – it was the first time for me. It was interesting but not the best I’ve ever done- or the horseback riding. I would have love doing the last one but as only 3 signed for it, I couldn’t go with them… bad luck!
On Friday night we had the “farewell” party and I must admit that was the craziest evening ever. On my “100 things to do before dying” I can erase “being bartender”.
Saturday morning we left Monteverde for the airport where we said goodbye. The bus driver dropped me at the school where they had told me a package was waiting for me. That was an AMAZING surprise. I was expecting a book size package and was amazed to discover a big and heavy orange present. Tears came to my eyes when I discovered what was inside: saucisson, paté, foie gras, nutella, vin blanc, petits gateaux et des bonbons. Oh Guillaume you are full of surprises! You are just great!! Thank you so much!!
The sadness of letting my group leaving, vanished with this wonderful present. I ran to the bus station of Alajuela for…well for the bus to Monteverde! Not ready to say goodbye yet. I arrived at 7pm, bought a Smoothie and went back to my flat. I’m sure you know what I did as soon as I was inside: Taste everything! Well Sure, I had to make sure I hadn’t forgotten the taste of the French food!
Sunday I invited Royner to come and taste the Alsacien food. He liked it but I love his faces tasting it. It was soooo funny! He tried everything without knowing what it was. The face discovering were funny too. So were the “Ooo poor little deer” or the “why would you eat wild boar or hare?”
Saucisson
Foie gras
Learning that it was deer
Wild boar it's strange, isn't it?
Before the hare....
After the hare :)
The days went flying by meanwhile I was packing and enjoying my last days in Monteverde. I must admit I was sad to pack knowing that this time it was for real, there wouldn’t be a comeback with another group. On Tuesday Royner and I went for a last drink together at bar Amigos. It was a very calm but nice evening. When the first notes of “La vida es un Carnaval” from Celia Cruz sounded in the bar, he invited me to dance Salsa. It’s my favorite song and I will always remember Royner and Monteverde when I’ll listen to it.
The next day, at 6am I left my flat to meet with Roy, the driver, to leave Monteverde for real. He made a lot of fun of me because I was looking at the back of the bus until I couldn’t see Monteverde anymore. I don’t regret it, I had a wonderful time over there and wanted to see it as long as I could. ;)
Goodbye Monteverde!
